Finding Remote Glamping In Ontario
I chose my favourite month, September, to visit Minaki Yurt Adventures located outside Minaki, Ontario. If you have seen any photos or artwork of Ontario lake country (imagine art by The Group of Seven), you will discover a landscape of rocky lakeshores and hauntingly beautiful spruce, fir, jack pine and tamaracks. Exactly as portrayed by our famous Canadian artists.
Once I completed my booking, I received directions and a guide on how to find my way and what to pack for my stay. Hosts Nadine and Jordy’s instructions were very detailed and my excitement built as I drove deeper into the wilderness. Pull wagons are available near the parking lot to load belongings and food. There are 5 yurts, a wooden tipi, and a wood fired sauna for guests to enjoy along with over 20 km of trails in the surrounding forest. If you are like me and love a little dose of luxury, they have you “covered” with the softest bamboo sheets and linen duvets. Bring supplies to make pizza in the wood fired oven and your favourite coffee to enjoy on the deck.
Minaki Yurt Adventures is the perfect blend of comfort meets outdoor adventure. At night the skies were clear for star gazing after which I relaxed by the wood burning stove. I couldn’t wait for my lakeside hike every morning, surrounded in hues of ochre, rust and green. If you are looking to relax, this is the perfect Canadian getaway. For those that like to escape but not completely disconnect, don’t worry, they have wifi!
I didn’t bring my mountain bike but I made good use of my hiking boots. The trails were easy to navigate, not too challenging and well marked. Nadine and Jordy have thoughtfully constructed benches at different spots along the trail for the best views.
This is truly a place you can escape to year round. I look forward to returning in winter or spring and maybe staying at a different yurt.
